Press ReleaseWill the Global Economic Crisis Impact on the 2010 FIFA World Cup?BRYANSTON – 63% of South Africans believe that the global economic crisis may lead to fewer visitors to South Africa than expected during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, according to market research company African Response. The current international economic crisis is taking its toll on pockets around the globe and travel and tourism is an expense which often takes a backseat during tough times. African Response asked 400 South Africans whether they felt that the state of the global economy will have an effect on the number of people who will be financially able to attend the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Sixty-three percent (63%) of South Africans said that they do feel it will have an effect, while only 20% say that it would not and 17% said that they were unsure. But this does not seem to sway the nation’s optimism in South Africa’s readiness to host this prestigious event. With only 376 days left to go, South Africans are already beaming with optimism. In this months 2010 Barometer 76% of South Africans said “yes, we will be ready to take on the 2010 FIFA World Cup!”
