National Defence Force gears up for the 2010 FIFA World Cup

BRYANSTON – 68% of South Africans believe that the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) will improve security for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and beyond.

Representing the views of 400 South Africans, the poll was conducted in response to the SANDF’s affirmation that they are fully prepared to ensure protection from terrorists, soccer hooligans and those planning to thwart the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The SANDF’s announcement was made earlier this year at a three-day biannual Military Information and Communication Symposium SA conference in Pretoria. It revealed that it will use state-of-the-art military information and communication technology networks to ensure safety and security of all under their watchful eye. This means that the South African National Defence Force will play a significant role in ensuring safety during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

With only three years left to go, South Africa’s challenge as host for the 2010 FIFA World Cup involves much preparation and high-level organisation. So just how ready are we?

According to the latest 2010 Barometer reading conducted by research agency African Response, 76% of South Africans agree that we will be ready for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

About the African Response 2010 Barometer:

September’s results represent the views of 400 respondents interviewed in Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town in August this year. The full African Response Barometer is released on a quarterly basis. Previous reports can be found at www.africanresponse.co.za.
