Press ReleaseSouth Africans against legalising prostitution and drinking in publicBRYANSTON – 79% of South Africans are against the proposal that prostitution and drinking in public be made legal for the duration of the 2010 World Cup, reveals a recent survey by African Response. In March of 2007 Jackie Selebi asked the National Assembly to give serious consideration on what to do about prostitution and drinking during the World Cup. After proposing that it be legalised, African Response conducted a poll to determine what the public’s perception was on the subject. African Response also conducts a regular 2010 Barometer measuring public perception of the readiness for the World Cup. In the same poll, just over a third of respondents (67%) stated that South Africa will be ready for the World Cup by the time it rolls around. When asked whether Carlos Pareira is earning a ‘reasonable’ salary at R1.8 million per month, 66% of respondents said No! - Ends - About African ResponseAfrican Response is the most empowered, black owned, black managed research agency in South Africa.
